Play Pickleball on a Tennis Court (2023) – Try New Things
Do you want to try pickleball on a Tennis Court?
Why not! You can always play with a ball on a Tennis Court that is nearby you. You only need a basic tennis court to discover this adventure.
Size comparison of the courts:
- As compared to the tennis court service box, the complete pickleball Court is 2 feet long only.
- The long lines of the pickleball court are 3.5 feet narrower than single lines on the Tennis Court.
Things required playing on tennis court:
You don’t need many of the things for playing pickleball on tennis court. You may need cones and markers to Mark lines on the Tennis Court. These lines can always be removed by using clothes or water bottles because we are not going to use permanent markers.
Note: never use tape, paint or chalk without the permission of the court manager or the owner.
You can also use a short rubber strip to mark lines on the Tennis Court and these strips are specially designed for such purpose. These trees have many advantages such as,
- They are inexpensive
- Can be transported easily
- Can we stored anywhere
- Less obstructive
- Provides better playing experience
Playing on the court without pickleball lines:
What if you don’t have any resources to mark pickleball court lines on your tennis court? Here are some tips that can help you to play pickleball on the Tennis Court.
- You can use the service box lines that are running parallel to the net as the baseline of your pickleball Court.
- Centreline of the pickleball court will remain the same as the centreline of the service box.
You can use 2 options for the side line of pickleball court
Option 1:
It is the recommended option. From each single lines tennis court you can mark 3 and half feet of side line. This can be done by simply walking, but for each line the same person’s foot must be used. Cones can be used as markers for the side line.
Option 2:
Other option is that the sidelines are made by using the single lines of the Tennis court. If you are looking for a wider court then this option is best because it will provide you space and it will make your movement easy. You can only use this option if there are no cones available and you can easily use additional court space.
You cannot forget marking the kitchen zone. If you are planning to play pickleball on a tennis court then you must mark off this zone. We cannot forget that kitchen is actual pickleball game. You can mark the kitchen by walking 7 feet away from the net to the baseline and drop your marker there. It is recommended to use at least three markers every sideline that interacts the kitchen line and one at the Centreline.
Note: You need to make sure that the marker do not interfere your game. Also remember that the marker should not create a safety risk for any of the player.
There are two options of using the net of the Tennis Court
Option 1:
As the tennis court net is 2 inches higher than the pickleball court so you can lower the Tennis net 2 inches in the middle. For this you have to slide the Tennis net centre strap an inch from one side. If you will leave the strap to one side then it can lose the tension affecting both the players of tennis and pickleball.
Note: it is not recommended to make permanent alterations to the center strap and always remember to place a step back to the original position as soon as you and your game.
Option 2:
You can also use the Tennis net as it is and this will also help you in regulation net and will make the game easier when you go to the pickleball court.
Rules and regulations:
To play pickleball on the tennis court the rules shall remain normal but we will give one exception and a recommendation for your benefit.
- Exception:
If the ball touches any of the markers on the court then the point shall be replayed.
- Recommendation:
Benefit of doubt shall be given on kitchen violation and out calls.
The main aim is to play your favorite pickleball game if you find Tennis Court around you when you are on a vacation.
