Rules Of The Kitchen In Pickleball (2023)

As we all know what kitchen is

“It is a specific area in the court where there are certain rules that define what the players cannot do inside”

There are some rules that need to be followed in the kitchen zone. These rules make the pickleball different from racket sports.

Rule 1

While you are volleying the ball you cannot stand or contact with the kitchen line.

If any of your body part is in contact with these areas the open receives a point.

This means that you are not allowed to stand at the net while the game is on.

Rule 2

Rule 2 only applies while you make contact with the ground. The question is can you hit the ball why you are standing behind the line?

The answer is yes, but you might fault and other kitchen rule and this is at your own risk.

Rule 3

If you drop anything that you are either carrying or wearing the opponent receives a point. Everything is included in it from paddle to your hats.

This also includes your keys or wallet, if they fall out of your pocket in the kitchen zone your opponent is going to get a point.

Rule 4

The final rule is that your Momentum is not going to help you in the kitchen zone.

No matter you have successfully volleyed the ball to the other player but you have to be out of the kitchen for avoiding any fault.

You will even get a fault on the dead balls.

Bounce in the kitchen

What if the ball bounces on a very short dink in the kitchen? If this happens you can enter the kitchen to play the ball.

The rules mentioned above are only for the shots in the air or for volleys. You should always keep in mind that you must not be standing in the kitchen

so your opponent does not take advantage of this using a volley. You can stand in the kitchen but it is very important to be out of it as soon as possible.
